What I Love Most About Platform University

I love Platform University, and I want you to love it too. If you’re not already a member, you are definitely missing out—but you probably don’t know just how much.

What I Love Most About Platform University

I thought school was over when I graduated college.

After all, I’d learned a lot. What else did I need a teacher for?

Looking back at that thought, it seems incredibly naïve—there is so much that I still don’t know.

I’ve been a member of Platform University for over a year now, and in that time I’ve learned more about growing a platform and running a business than I ever did in four years of college.

Platform University is Michael Hyatt‘s premier membership site with over 6000 paying members—myself included.

Each month, Michael Hyatt and his team release a slew of content designed to help you reach more people and create more impact.

In fact, there’s a new piece of content nearly every single week.

So here’s a look at my three favorite Platform U courses (which you’ll find inside the site).

1. The Backstage Pass

Michael Hyatt runs a popular blog, podcast, and two successful membership sites, along with his other products (including the New York Times bestselling book, Platform).

He runs a self-made business with the help of an incredibly skilled remote team— and continuously grows his profit every year.

You and I have a lot to learn. And Michael Hyatt has a lot to teach.Click To Tweet

In each month’s backstage pass, Michael gives a behind-the-scenes look into how he runs his business. I can’t count the lessons I’ve learned from these videos, but here are a few that come to mind:

  • How to set yourself up for a productive day,
  • How to write better blog posts, in far less time, and
  • The specific revenue streams Michael counts on (which inspired this post).

2. The Master Class

Being a bestselling author and successful entrepreneur has its perks, one of which is that you get to know some really incredible people.

Michael shares those relationships with every student by recording Master Class interviews each month.

Each interview is an in-depth conversation with an expert, which feels more natural and transparent than any other interviews I’ve heard or seen before.

After watching each Master Class, I feel like the expert and I are now close friends.

Here are a few past interviews, for an example of the caliber and content to expect:

3. The Community Forums

Honestly, this is my favorite aspect of Platform University—I saved the best for last.

People from every walk of life fill the discussion threads on Platform U. Some run massively successful businesses, and others are just getting started or working on a hobby.

The coolest unadvertised Platform-U-perk has got to be meeting fellow students in real life at a coffee shop, conference, or other event.

I’ve made a good number of friends (and picked up more than a few clients) by making time to regularly engage in the community forums.

There are threads going on around all kinds of different topics. A few current examples include:

  • What tools and apps should I use to kick-start a new platform?
  • How I Built a $2,960 a Month Membership Site in 90 Days, and
  • I BLOG ABOUT PIE (I said “all kinds”, didn’t I?).

There are only two enrollment periods a year when Platform University opens up—and one of those is going on right now.

Question: What could you learn from an active, learning environment like Platform University?

  • Wow John, you nailed this post about Platform U! I’ve been a member for less than 3 months, so I’m going to have to take a leaf from your book. I totally missed the “I BLOG ABOUT PIE” thread in the forum, sadly. Subject headings don’t get much more interesting than that!

    • Glad you enjoyed the post, Laura! It’s good to have you as a fellow student within Platform U. And yes, it’s hard to beat Pie—especially in all caps!

  • Jevonnah Ellison

Congratulations on winning Michael Hyatt’s blogging contest, John! Great post here!

    • Thanks Jevonnah! I’m very grateful, and also glad I could give something back to Platform University by sharing the love with this post.

    Hey John,

Just ran into your website – nice job!

I joined Platform University about 3 months ago but haven’t taken much action other than listening/watching some content – very interesting stuff! Haven’t chimed in on the Forum at all yet.. I will connect with you there 🙂

    Best,
    Anil

    • Looking forward to connecting in the forums, Anil!

  • Thanks for this post John! I’ve been a Platform U member for around a year, but honestly, have only logged in once. I’ve just not prioritized taking advantage of my membership (sounds like my gym membership!). It’s been heavy on my mind lately to step up my game for the benefit of my readers and grow my teaching and reaching skills by actually using the resources I’ve invested in. Thanks for the reminder and encouragement!
